History

Where the Hell is 29 Palms? Located in the Morongo Basin of California's Mojave desert. The oasis of 29 Palms was discovered in 1855 by Col.Henry Washington. Before the turn of the 20th century the area became popular with miners and prospectors. By 1952 the U.S. Marine Corps took charge of 932 square miles of desert and designated it as Headquarters Marine Corps training center, and by 1979 it became known as the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. Because of its remote location, harsh terrain and environment, to those who have served there it is affectionately remembered as 29 Stumps.
